Kinmen Defense Command Issues Press Release Statement Clarifying the Incident of the “Discovery of Several Unexploded Ordnance on the Beach of Guningtou” (November 19th, 2016)

The Kinmen Defense Command received a civilian report at 9:30 am today (19th)regarding the discovery of several unexploded ordnance on the beaches at Guningtou and made the following clarifications:
Upon receipt of the report, the Kinmen Defense Command promptly sent forces to Guningtou to search the beaches and reclaimed an estimated 63 shells. The reclaimed shells have been transferred over to the Unexploded Ordnance Department for handling in accordance with procedures before storage. Subsequently, the unexploded shells will be scheduled for detonation in accordance with the Unexploded Ordnance Handling Regulations.
The 63 unexploded shells retrieved by Kinmen Defense Command showed signs of heavy rust on the exterior and posed no immediate dangers. The shells were believed to be leftover ordnance from the Battle of Guningtou
